SECOND CONDİTİONAL (İNGİLİZCE KONU ANLATIM)

İkinci koşullu yapının İngilizcedeki adı "Second Conditional" ve genellikle gelecekteki olası olaylar veya şartlara dair konuşmak için kullanılır. Bu koşul, gerçekleşmesi mümkün olan, ancak henüz gerçekleşmemiş bir şeyin sonuçlarını ifade etmek için kullanılır. "Second Conditional"ı anlatan beş Türkçe cümleyi aşağıda birlikte inceleyelim:

Ø  Eğer havalar güzelse, pikniğe gidebiliriz.

Ø  (Bu cümlede, havaların güzel olma olasılığı vurgulanarak, pikniğe gitme durumu belirtiliyor.)

Ø  Eğer kazanırsan, tatil için sana bir bilet alacağım.

Ø  (Kazanma olasılığına bağlı olarak, birisinin tatil için bilet alacağı durum ifade ediliyor.)

Ø  Eğer daha fazla çalışırsan, sınavda daha iyi sonuçlar elde edebilirsin.

Ø  (Daha fazla çalışmanın sonucunda daha iyi sınav sonuçları elde etme ihtimali anlatılıyor.)

Ø  Eğer o filmi izlemiş olsaydın, ne kadar iyi olduğunu anlardın.

Ø  (Filmi izlemenin gerçekleşmemiş bir durum olduğu ve bunun sonucunda film hakkında bir değerlendirme yapılacağı belirtiliyor.)

Ø  Eğer daha fazla para kazanırsam, yeni bir araba alabilirim.

Ø  (Daha fazla para kazanmanın gerçekleşmesi durumunda, yeni bir araba alabileceğimiz ihtimali ifade ediliyor.)

Bu cümlelerde, gerçekleşmemiş şartlar ve sonuçlar üzerinden konuşularak, "Second Conditional" yapısı kullanılmıştır.

    In a Type 2 conditional sentence, the tense in the 'if' clause is the simple past, and the tense in the main clause is the present conditional:

In these sentences, the time is now or any time, and the situation is unreal. They are not based on fact, and they refer to an unlikely or hypothetical condition and its probable result. The use of the past tense after 'if' indicates unreality. We can nearly always add a phrase starting with "but", that expresses the real situation:

·         If the weather wasn't so bad, we would go to the park
(...but it is bad, so we can't go)

·         If I was the Queen of England, I would give everyone £100.
(...but I'm not, so I won't)

Examples of use:

1. To make a statement about something that is not real at present, but is possible:

I would visit her if I had time.
(= I haven't got time but I might have some time)

2. To make a statement about a situation that is not real now and never could be real:

If I were you, I'd give up smoking
(but I could never be you)

Examples:

a. If I was a plant, I would love the rain.
b. If you really loved me, you would buy me a diamond ring.
c. If I knew where she lived, I would go and see her.
d. You wouldn't need to read this if you understood English grammar.
e. Would he go to the concert if I gave him a ticket?
f. They wouldn't invite her if they didn't like her
g. We would be able to buy a larger house if we had more money

NOTE:
It is correct, and very common, to say "If I were" instead of "If I was".

If Clauses Type II  (Unreal Past Condition)

(Gerçekleşmesi Mümkün Olmamış Koşullar)

Bu tip şart cümlelerinde “if” ’li cümlecik Geçmiş Zaman halinde, ana cümledeki fiil Geçmiş Şart Yapısında, yani “would” ile kullanılmış durumdadır. Bu yapı gerçek olmayan, mümkün olmayan veya muhtemel olmayan durumlardan bahsederken kullanılır. “Yüz milyon dolarım olsaydı...(ki yok).” türündeki şart cümleleri gerçekleşmesi mümkün görülmeyen, sadece olması bir an için hayal edilen bir durumu gösterirler. Bu tipte fiil Geçmiş Zaman olduğu halde geçmişle ilgili değildir. Şimdiki (bilgi yelpazesi. com) durumu belirtir. “To be” eylemi, “second conditional” formunda kullanıldığında, '’were” olarak kullanılır. Bundan başka “unreal conditional” birkaç durumda kullanılır.

v       I am ill now, so I won’t come with you. (Şu anki bir gerçek)

If I weren’t ill, I would come with you . ( Zaman PAST olmasına rağmen anlam PRESENT dır.)

v       They live in İzmir so we can’t see each other very often (Şu anki bir gerçek)

If they didn’t live in İzmir, we could see each other very often. ( Zaman PAST olmasına rağmen anlam PRESENT dır.)

v       She can’t buy that car, because she doesn’t have enough money. (Şu anki bir gerçek)

She could buy the car if she had enough money.. ( Zaman PAST olmasına rağmen anlam PRESENT dır.)

v       If I lived near my office I’d be in time  for work.

v       If I dyed my hair blue everyone would laugh at me.

v       If I had a map I would lend it to you.

v       If he studied more, he would pass the exam.

v       I would lower taxes if I were the President.

v       If I were a carpenter, I would build my own house.

v       If I were you, I wouldn't drive so fast.

v       If  I were  younger than you, I could faster.

Might

v       If the prices weren’t very high, we might buy a car.

Simple past

v       If I lived near my office I’d be in time  for work.

v       If I were you, I wouldn’t go there . (Was da kullanılabilir amam were daha yaygındır.)

Past Continuous

v       If he weren’t working now, he could come to our party.  (but he is working now)

v       If the baby weren’t sleeping, I would go out.  (but he is sleeping)

Could Had to

v       If she could use computer, they would accept her for the job  (but she can’t use computer)

v       If they had to get up early, they would go to bed early. (but they don’t have to get up early)

Should (olasılık)

v       If there should be draught, we would have many problems.
